Baltimore Ravens vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by admin on Saturday 22 November 2008 at 6:42 pm

This should be a good football game as the Eagles (5-4-1) and Ravens (6-4) both need this game to remain in the playoff hunt.  The Eagles will come out throwing the ball against the Ravens’ defense as they are averaging 268.5 yards per game through the air.  McNabb must be careful though as the Ravens’ defense is full of ballhawks picking off 15 passes already this season.  If Brian Westbrook doesn’t play in this game (possibility) then the Eagles will find running the ball very tough against a Ravens’ defense that is allowing only 79.6 yards rushing per game and 3.4 yards per carry.

The Ravens are only 1-4 against teams with winning records and that applies in the game tomorrow.  The Ravens must run the football effectively in this game as they are averaging 146.8 yards rushing per game and 4.0 ypc.  Still, it won’t be easy against a Eagles’ defense that is only allowing 98.7 yards rushing per game and 3.6 ypc.  Joe Flacco needs support from the running game or he could be in trouble as the Eagles have 36 sacks and 9 interceptions this season.

PREDICTION:  PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 17, BALTIMORE RAVENS 16

The Baltimore Ravens sign WR Terrance Copper

The Ravens have signed 26-year old WR Terrance Copper.  Copper played in 5 games for the Saints this season and he didn’t catch any passes.  Copper has now played in 61 games in his NFL career and he has caught 46 passes for 600 yards (13.0 avg) with 6 TD grabs.  Copper was signed to replace WR Demetrius Williams who will miss the remainder of the season with a Achilles injury.  He played in 7 games for the Ravens this season and he caught 13 passes for 180 yards (13.8 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Copper should help out the Ravens on special teams and multiple receiver sets on offense but he’s not as good of a player as Williams is.

The Baltimore Ravens lose Chris McAllister for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Extra, Extra, Ravens News Here, Injury Reports, General by admin on Sunday 9 November 2008 at 1:21 pm

The Ravens have lost cornerback Chris McAllister for the season due to a knee problem.  He played in 6 games for the Ravens this season and he made 16 tackles, had 3 interceptions and he defensed 7 passes.  Frank Walker will replace McAllister in the starting lineup and he has played pretty well.  Walker has played in 8 games this season and he has made 21 tackles, had 1 interception and he has defensed 7 passes.  Look for Walker to do a decent job filling in for McAllister.

The Baltimore Ravens lose CB Derrick Martin for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injury Reports, General by admin on Sunday 9 November 2008 at 12:00 pm

The Ravens have lost cornerback Derrick Martin for the remainder of the season due to a shoulder problem.  He played in 4 games this season and he made 1 tackle.  The Ravens shouldn’t miss Martin much as he didn’t get to play often for them.

Baltimore Ravens 37, Cleveland Browns 27

The Ravens’ offense was outstanding in the game last Sunday.  Joe Flacco was excellent completing 17 of 29 passes for 248 yards with 2 TD passes and no interceptions.  Rookie RB Ray Rice starting in place of a injured Willis McGahee and he had a great game rushing for 154 yards on 21 carries (7.3 ypc).  He also caught 3 passes for 22 yards (7.3 avg).  Derrick Mason (7 rec, 136 yards, TD) and Mark Clayton (4 rec, 87 yards, TD) both also had outstanding games for the Ravens last Sunday.  The Ravens rolled to 429 yards on offense last Sunday but it was the defense that sealed this win.  Terrell Suggs intercepted a screen pass last in the 4th quarter and he returned it 42 yards for a TD to seal this victory.  The Ravens are now 5-3 and they are only 1/2 a game behind the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.
