5. (137) Jason Phillips, ILB
The Ravens were glad to see Phillips drop to them in the 5th round. He likely only dropped because he hurt his knee at the scouting combine. Phillips is 6′0″, 236 pounds and he runs a 4.59 40. Phillips plays with great effort as his motor never stops running. He reminds me a little bit of Zach Thomas when he came into the NFL and the Ravens would love him to turn out being that kind of player. Phillips played in 50 games (all starts) at TCU making 315 tackles, 38 tackles for a loss, had 7.5 sacks, broke up 11 passes and he had 2 interceptions. This was a outstanding pick for the Ravens as Phillips will help out on special teams immediately and he could force his way into the starting lineup at some point in 2009.
